It depends on libgcal from git repository or upcoming libgcal 0.9.4 to compile.

This will enable the following features:

Implementing a frame counter (I'm counting the times that the update
current function is called and doing the ratio by the animation duration).

Seems to be a sensible approach since QGraphicsView will only repaint
parts of the screen that actually need it.
